8 ways to dress according to your body type
All women are beautiful. Sadly, too many hide this fact with ill chosen dresses that it’s no wonder we have a hard time seeing our inner beauty. To address this problem, we at Mary Jardin have 8 ways to dress according to your body type to follow to find that perfect dress for any occasion. We truly believe that all womankind are beautiful. Now we want you to believe too.
“It’s not about the dress you wear, but the life you lead in the dress”
– Diana Vreeland
1. Choose the right kind of fabric
The type of cloth that goes into the dress determines how the dress will fall on your body type. Always dress according to your body type. If you have a lack of curves you would benefit from slightly thicker materials with bright colors and interesting patterns. We want to flaunt beauty, not tacky. For our curvy queens we suggest soft materials that fall nicely on the body and to play with colors to create interesting color blocking. We’ll release an article that focuses on these body types soon!

2. Remember the color of your skin
Skin color should be celebrated, and the dress you wear should always celebrate the skin you’re in. There are many color palettes to choose from and knowing the color spectrum and it’s collaborative and opposing colors help create both a beautiful blend or captivating color contrast. Don’t ever forget that your body is a canvas and it’s up to you to make the best of what you have. We are here to help.

3. Choosing the right shoes to walk in
Malaysian women talk the talk but sometimes wear the wrong shoes for the walk. Different shoes introduce different gaits, from platform steady to highheel authority. Wearing shoes for style does not always mean enduring pain for the next 4 hours. For the height challenged high heels are the common choice but do remember that there are styles that celebrate the cute and cuddly. Flaunt what you have and conquer your day! Nothing can defeat a powerful woman comfortable in her own skin and shoes.
‘I still have my feet on the ground – I just wear better shoes.’
– Oprah Winfrey

4. Deciding on a design for you
Our big bodied beauties would benefit from large dresses with tiny prints to give a diminishing effect. The opposite can be applied for our petite. Large prints are a bold statement that helps accentuate your style.
.
5. The dress is in the details
Detailing can help give an allusion of an alluring body. A flat chest can be given volume by simply adding ruffles to the bodice of the dress, while a belt can help create create a border to highlight the color of the dress. Thick waist belts work wonders for tall women with long torsos because it allows her to have control over her proportions, while our shorter contemporaries should favor thing belts to give the dress some motion while not hiding the torso that they have.
.
6. The cut of your clothes
Longer cut dresses with an elastic belt work wonders for thin women as it helps with how the dress falls on her body. The dress then helps create the slight curve that she may lack. Whereas for the rather curvy, avoid dresses that are cut to make you appear short. Whatever your figure may be, remember to find the points in your figure you want to highlight, and which parts need help.
My fascination has been the space between cloth and the body, and using a two-dimensional element to clothe a three-dimensional form.
– Issey Miyake.
7. Outwear thats In.
Outwear like accessories helps give depth and motion to your dressing. Accessories move and swing based on your movement while outwear provides layers, giving you 2 to 3 looks with minimal effort. The right outwear also helps you hide certain curves for later. A well placed cardigan can give a simple dress much needed regality, while a blazer can take you from dinner party to formal with relative ease.
.
8. Accessories
A well placed accessory can fill up what would be a bare arm, bring attention to the right places, and even make a surprise (but well timed) photo. A hat, scarf and necklace are simple ways to change up a reliable dress without looking like you’re wearing the same thing.

We here at Mary Jardin, care about how you feel. Dressing the right way helps set the day right.
